2010 Audi A5: Sporty Dynamics And Excellent Interior

According to Auto Press, the 2010 Audi A5 ranks 7 out of 9 Luxury Sports Cars. Audi A5 offers an impressive combination of elegance and sporty handling dynamics. Though its performance capabilities fall short of the opposition, the Audi A5 is still a thrilling and satisfying vehicle to drive. In fact, Consumer Guide labels the 2010 Audi A5 a “Best Buy.”

Lets Eye what the top blogs write about this breathe-taking and awe-inspiring Audi:

“Given the influx of power-folding hardtops in the U.S. market, Audi seems poised to separate itself from the herd. The new A5 and S5 Cabriolets offer handsome styling, whether the top’s up or down, impressive cargo capacity, and formidable street cred.” — Motor Trend

“Audi’s coupe is handsome, fun-to-drive, and oozes class and refinement. Quick on its feet and responsive in V-6 guise, the A5 drives as good as it looks. The beautiful interior has excellent ergonomics but a smallish backseat. All-wheel drive makes the A5 a foul-weather friend.” — Car and Driver

“It’s practical and comfortable enough for everyday driving with enough style and performance to make a statement.” – Forbes

“Beautifully sleek and beautifully detailed, the A5 cabriolet delivers the top-down style you expect from a convertible without compromising the everyday utility you must have from a car that can carry four passengers.” — Edmunds

“With its potent powertrain, head-turning looks, comprehensive features, seating for four and a choice of manual or automatic transmissions, the A5 definitely raises Audi’s overall image and style rating – and most likely will do the same for its sales numbers, as well.” — Kelley Blue Book

“A5 and S5 are premium coupes that do many things well, they have strong acceleration, capable handling, and the security of all-wheel drive. They’re not as outright sporty as the two-seat Porsche Cayman, but they are more practical and undercut it on price, making them a strong choice.” — Consumer Guide

A5 Interior

Auto writers admire the 2010 Audi A5′s comfy cabin and top-notch fit and finish. “More sporty than luxurious, but materials are of high quality throughout the cabin,” writes Consumer Guide. Critics also like the 2010 Audi A5′s modern expediency gadgets.

Exterior & Style

Critics have installed on the Cruze set on the top shelf of small car design. Although the design input came from the subsidiaries of GM worldwide, the Cruze is the first use of the global architecture of the company's small cars, the end result is consistent, elegant and modern without being on the edge . From the other side, the Cruze features a gently sloping line down the shoulder combined with its 2685mm wheelbase comparatively long and wrinkled front fenders and doors to create a purposeful stance. The prominent chrome grille with its large Holden logo plus the wraparound headlights are very elegant. In the rear, the look is clean and clear taillights have large modern double circular lighting elements. In the CDX as our test car, alloy wheels 17 "contribute to a more elegant appearance.

The Interior

Once again it is a global collaboration of GM and Rebecca Christianson, Holden's chief designer for color and the Court recorded a lot of frequent flyer miles between Australia and Korea during the development phase and led to a class. It has excellent leather seats finished with contrast between the filling and reinforcing. It is finished with French seam stitching and combine with the rest of the finish finish to provide a true feeling of high quality. Rear seat passengers enjoy the nice sculpture and a 917mm surprising legroom. The sound system is an array of six speakers with four internal amplifiers, an in-dash CD, MP3 format is similar in temperament. Vital information is presented in a simple, easy to read three-dial cluster. Luggage capacity is a useful 400 liters.

Driving

Holden usually strong, the CDX Cruze made mincemeat of our mountain test route with frame very well balanced and precise steering. In motion, the five-speed manual was soft it was providential, as we work hard to keep the Cruze ... Cruise NO and in fact we were pushing hard through the twists and turns and enjoy the good information provided at both front and rear. Refinement levels were generally high, although there was a little more noisy suspension railway crossing Melbourne and the famous tram track

Conclusion

With a house in Germany, the global design teams and engineering based in South Korea and testing of prototypes in the UK, USA, Canada, Sweden, China, Korea and Australia, the term "World Car 'is certainly applies to this new small car. The entrance to the Cruze family starts at $ 20,990 for the CD and CDX $ 23,990. This is competitive when you buy from rivals - the Ford Focus sedan, the Toyota Corolla, Mitsubishi Lancer and the Nissan Tiida. But it is a perfect mix-stand in the exterior and interior features. And Cruze earned the highest rating of five stars in ANCAP.

BMW Megacity: An Electric Drive, Podlike Two-Seater

By 2013, you might drive BMW’s up-next Megacity- an electric vehicle! Needless to say, it’s a concept that will drive you off your feets. The image itself is exciting and wild, and getting me crazy. However, details are a little scarce at the moment but the Megacity is expected to draw from a rear-mounted electric motor. Stay tuned.

Pundits have always analyzed that soon we will have cities with more than 10 million people. So automakers are looking at ways to reduce the automotive footprint. General Motors has shown its EN-V, for Electric Networked-Vehicle, a podlike two-seater for the megacities of 2030. It is currently being demonstrated at the Expo 2010 world’s fair in Shanghai. Even Ford showed its Start concept car at the Beijing auto show this year. The Start is built of composite panels on a metal frame, with a shape that recalls the New Beetle and Mini Cooper.

And now BMW have something amazing in store for us (the wheels are driving me mad indeed). I guess designers have started plannig new types of vehicles for the world’s congested metropolitan areas. Even the United Nations estimates that the population of cities, now 3.2 billion, will rise to 5 billion by 2030. And by 2050, the U.N. projects, 70 percent of the world’s population will live in cities.

In briefings this week, BMW mostly discussed the car’s materials and technology. But Adrian van Hooydonk, director of BMW Group Design, also talked about the MCV’s design. In a telephone interview, he said the Mega City would be part of an entire new BMW subbrand. The challenge, he said, is whether BMW “can produce a car that is both sustainable and premium.”

BMW knows how to create premium products. “They are highly emotional, with refined materials and high level of attention to detail,” Mr. van Hooydonk said. “But there was a belief that premium and sustainable could not go together.”

The company assembled a special group to speed the project to completion. “We put a team together of 15 exterior and interior designers, together with engineers, he said. “If you want to create something very new in a short time frame you have to have everybody sitting together.”

“It is sometimes hard for designers to get their heads around the change,” Mr. van Hooydonk said. He added, “The chance to work on such a new formula is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.” The Mega City Vehicle is imagined not simply as an in-city errand hauler, but as a commuter car. “In the beginning of the program we asked, what does ‘megacity’ mean?’” he said. “What kind of people will drive this car? What will they do everyday?”

He noted that while “many people are looking forward to zero-emission cars,” some worry about the vehicles’ range and their safety. “Many are afraid they will have to give up coolness or sense of style,” he said. “People fear that a responsible car might look ugly or weird.”

To find ways to reassure them, Mr. van Hooydonk said, the designers looked not so much at other cars as at other sustainable products, from food to furniture. Most sustainable products involved sacrifice; BMW’s design team did not think people would be willing to sacrifice much with a car.

The MCV looks sportier than most electrics. The front end is short, but the dynamic sweep of the roof and beltline (the line that runs below the side windows) keep it from being podlike. “It will look stable and solid on its wheels,” Mr. van Hooydonk said.

Ford Fiesta 2011: Six-Speed Dual-Clutch Automatic

Just two weeks more to go for the all new 2011 Ford Fiesta. No doubt the Fiesta subcompact is one of the more keenly awaited cars arriving in the U.S. market. Ford announced finally that the deliveries of the first Fiestas to its dealers will be available starting two weeks later.

Ford Fiesta has also made winning points for styling, equipment, and performance before its launch. The Fiesta is Ford’s first high-volume European car to be sold in U.S. However, Ford said that the deliveries are postponed up to two weeks, blaming the delays on storm damage to railroads in northern Mexico. So eager buyers and test drivers will have to take a breath and wait for just a little longer.

Many dealers already have waiting lists for the 2011 Fiesta, which starts at $13,995 but can go well over $20,000 if lavishly optioned, leading some to wonder whether Ford’s expectations for the Fiesta are too high.

The 2011 Fiesta offers one engine, a 119-horsepower 1.6-liter four cylinder, fitted to either a five-speed manual or a six-speed dual-clutch automatic that Ford calls “PowerShift.” Two body styles are available, a five door hatchback and four door sedan. Fitted with the five-speed, the Fiesta is rated at 29 mpg in the city, 38 mpg highway. The PowerShift automatic gives 30 mpg in the city, 38 mpg on the highway. For ultimate fuel economy, a special SFE package boosts highway fuel economy to 40 mpg.

For North American markets, the Fiesta is assembled at the huge Ford complex in Cuautitlan, outside Mexico City. That means all Fiestas for the U.S. market get packed onto train cars and hauled north.

3 Best Cars For The Youth

Summer is prime time for teens to get behind the wheel, so Consumer Reports has released its list of best cars for new drivers, who really want to drive the best models on the roads. So here are the top three cars for the teens to go wild over. Check them out.

1. Hyundai Elantra

The 2010 Hyundai Elantra is the most comfortable and spacious cabins in the Affordable Small Car class, the Elantra is well worth a look for those who want a little extra comfort while getting from point A to B. Its warranty is one of the longest in the class and it gets high reliability ratings that make its affordable base price all the more attractive. It handles well, has no problem passing on the highway and offers excellent fuel economy for the class. Additionally, it offers good cargo capacity for a small sedan and has a rear seat that is actually comfortable, a quality that is exceptionally rare among affordable small cars. With a low base price, a low cost of ownership and many virtues, the Elantra earned our Best Compact Car for the Money award for 2010, just as it did for the 2009 model year.

2. Mazda 3

The 2010 redesigned Mazda3′s aggressively sporty performance is notable among affordable small cars, but its once-sleek exterior is now described as goofy-looking by some auto writers. When it came time to redesign the popular Mazda3, most reviewers had the same opinion. In terms of the car’s energetic engine power, solid handling and abundant sportiness, don’t mess too much with a good thing. According to our analysis, Mazda’s engineers listened and delivered a 2010 model that enhances the best-loved attributes of the outgoing 3. The redesigned Mazda3 is already an award winner, having secured a spot on the Car & Driver “10 Best” list for 2010 and earning a “Best Buy” award from Consumers Digest.

3. Honda CR-V

The Honda CR-V provides one of the best combinations of safety, utility and affordability in its class. And with increased fuel economy, more power and a more well-liked exterior for 2010, it gets even better. Look past the conservative exterior styling and you’ll find the best-designed small SUV in this price range when it comes to interior aesthetics and day-to-day practicality. The CR-V is often compared to the Toyota RAV4, another class leader. The CR-V is an award winner. In the past, it received Motor Week’s “Driver’s Choice” for Best Small Utility and IntelliChoice’s “Motorist Choice Award.”

Protect Your Car From Thieves

Is your cars safe from vulnerable car attacks/hacks? “A group of researchers from Rutgers University and the University of South Carolina have just discovered that you can hack into a car’s electronics wirelessly, which means any modern vehicle could be vulnerable to an attack at any time, even while it’s being driven down the road,” reports Autoblog.

To access the car’s computers, the team used the tire pressure monitoring system. Those systems have been required in new cars since 2008, and wirelessly transmit their data to the car’s onboard computer. Once the researchers figured out the tire pressure monitoring system’s signals, they transmitted their information to the car’s computers. Earlier this year, researchers showed that it’s possible to hack a car computer using wired connections; this is the first case of anyone hacking a car’s computer wirelessly.

“The team sent fake warning messages from 40 meters away, and in another experiment, got the test car to flash a warning that a tire had lost all pressure while beaming the signal from another car as both drove 68 mph,” writes Jalopnik.

While the results are unnerving, you should still believe all warnings your car gives you. As ARS Technica points out, “these attacks are more of a nuisance than any real danger; the tire sensors only send a message every 60-90 seconds, giving attackers little opportunity to compromise systems or cause any real damage. Nonetheless, both pieces of research demonstrate that these in-car computers have been designed with ineffective security measures.”

Unleashing Honda Odeyssey 2011

Honda refurbished last-year’s top-selling minivan in the U.S., the Odyssey, to compete with Toyota Motor Corp.’s Sienna and lure younger drivers from “crossover” light trucks that have eroded the segment’s sales.

The 2011 Odyssey goes on sale Sept. 30 with a new look and a base price of $27,800, or $1,000 more than the current version.

“This stigma attached to the minivan as being boxy and not as appealing from a styling standpoint, we tried to address that,” Catalin Matei, Honda’s senior designer for the Odyssey, said in an interview in La Jolla, California. “We kept the functionality and increased interior volume. The appearance is lower, wider, more sporty.”

Fuel economy for the V-6 engine Odyssey improved to a combined 21 miles per gallon in city and highway driving for LX and EX grades, from 18 mpg previously, Honda said. Fuel economy for the Odyssey Touring grade, a high-end version that starts at $40,755, improved to a combined 22 mpg from 20 mpg, aided by the use of a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Terrafugia Flying Car

How about driving your car in the skies? Sounding strange but Jens Martin Skibsted and his firm has designed a Terrafugia flying car design, with a folding-wing for easy parking, which can actually make sky-roads for you. Skibsted talked about his futuristic project in an extensive interview over at BoingBoing. Here is what he revealed.

The entire concept started in search of urban mobility. They wanted some planning for the city with style, so the thought stopped at flying cars. The result was Terrafugia’s next-generation Transition Roadable Aircraft, unveiled on Monday. However, a scale model is now under construction and reservations are acknowledged for $10,000 with delivery planned for late next year.

The Federal Aviation Administration have also granted an addition 110 pounds within the Light Sport Aircraft category so that the Transition can incorporate typical safety qualities found in cars. Terrafugia announced that the sale price would be in the $200,000 range.

And the team is working really hard to make things work. I’d imagine that designing a flying car is a unique challenging project. Skibsted revealed that the project had three stakeholders- designers, mechanical engineers, and then the aerodynamics engineers. Usually, you just have designers working with engineers on a certain concept. Besides, KIBISI likes working on concepts for unusual objects and designs, and they are pretty sure that they will make this design fly.

The Lush Ford Fiesta

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has named the 2011 Ford Fiesta as a ‘Top Safety Pick car.’ According to them, it is the most highly-ranked safety car of 2011.

Ford Fiesta was put to test where it performed well in a roof strength test and earned a score of “Good” in front, side, rollover and rear crash protection tests. IIHS says that “no other minicar the Institute has tested has earned top ratings in all four safety ratings.”

According to Consumer Reports: “Competitors to the Fiesta include the Honda Fit, Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio, Mini Cooper, and Toyota Yaris, which all earned an Acceptable score in the roof test; the Chevrolet Aveo earned a Marginal rating.”

While all of this sounds good, there is a catch. CNN reports that “the award only applies to Fiestas built after July 2010, when Ford made design changes to minimize the possibility of doors opening in side impact crashes.”

All cars can broadly be categorized according to their size, utility, construction and prize.

Size – Cars can be large or small, catering to the customer’s need. Depending upon the number of passengers it is to carry, one can choose from a host of cars available in the market.

Utility – Whether a car is meant to carry people or goods or both, there is a vast array of cars to be had. Some large, heavy vehicles take on the term “trucks” as they are hardy and may be used for rough-and-tuff riding. Others are luxury cars.

Construction – Cars may be light and delicate in built. These are mostly used to run on well maintained roads of a city or a town. Some may be glamorous, two door or four, sleek, long or with carefully moulded body. The engine of cars can vary from 4 to 8 cylinders. The powerful cars are used for racing or sports.

Prize – Perhaps this factor forms the corner-stone while a customer is shopping for a suitable car. Different cars carry different price tags.
